Congratulations to the Needham School Committee for taking the top prize at the 2019 Spelling Bee and to the Broadmeadow “Smaht Spellahs” for winning the elementary round!

The winning word was kakistocracy, which is defined as “a government run by the least qualified people.”

Over 40 teams gathered to compete in the 28th Annual Needham Education Foundation Spelling Bee.  Teams consisted of teachers, students, parents and members of local businesses and civics groups.

Thank you to all who attended and a special thanks to our Bee pronouncers:  WBZ-TV Co-Anchor David Wade, WCVB 5 Investigates Reporter Kathy Curran, and our very own Superintendent, Dr. Dan Gutekanst.  Thank you, too, to all those who attended to cheer on our teams.

See the “Eye Opener” which was filmed at the Bee!
