Grants for Needham Schools

The Needham Education Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to fostering excellence and innovation in public education, which we consider a cornerstone in our town's economic and social well-being.

In 17 years of grant-making and fund-raising, this community foundation has awarded more than $1 million in support of more than 225 innovative projects benefiting Needham's schoolchildren, while growing its sustaining fund to more than $1 million.

By supporting the creativity of educators and enhancing the enrichment opportunities of our children, we believe we are building not only stronger schools, but a stronger, more vibrant community in Needham.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the growth in our assets, NEF offers three grant cycles on an annual basis: fall and spring grants of up to $5,000 each and a "Large Grant" cycle to support one-year or two-year projects, school-wide projects or system-wide projects that are innovative, collaborative, and promise broad and lasting impact for Needham schoolchildren.

Large Grant Program

NEF also considers grants of $5,000 to $15,000 to fund broader, more ambitious projects. These grants support one-year or two-year projects, school-wide projects or system-wide projects that are innovative, collaborative, and promise broad and lasting impact for Needham schoolchildren.

The Collaborative Initiative

Through the Collaborative Initiative program, the NEF works closely with the Needham Public Schools administration to fund larger, potentially multi-year initiatives that will have major, strategic impact on education, yet would not be possible within the confines of the current school operating budget.

The first Collaborative Initiative program, launched in October 2007, is the Needham High School Global Competence Program.
