| This is a collaborative project between the Pollard Middle School, the Needham Human Rights Committee, and the Needham Clergy Association. The project vision is to implement a systematic and comprehensive way to educate students system wide to identify, talk about and devise action plans around issues of bias, stereotypes, racism and other oppressions. It encompasses all aspects of the Needham community that affect a child's development, including sports organizations, religious institutions, parent education as well as the school community. This NEF Large Grant would put into motion, beginning at the middle school level, the training, dialog and climate that facilitate discussion, leadership and confidence among students, teachers, parents, and community leaders in facing and challenging intolerance when it happens. Using proven programs and methods, such as the Anti-Defamation League's World of Difference Program and Facing History, this project will build upon, complement, and support other efforts in the schools and the community. The vision is to expand to include elementary curriculum in future year(s). |
